Steppas Choice 170: Chezz & C4TR

Steppas Choice 170: Chezz & C4TR
Broadcasted on the 4th of April 2011

Out of the Dust of a new Generation of BASS Heads, on a mission to push different strains of Dubstep / Bass Music, a man like Chezz emerged and came to showcase what he calls proper spanking Bass Madness: Deep'n'Dark morphing Basslines with sophisticated Swung out riddims. Chezz part of the Dubsludge Collective appeared at least for me with the launch of the Swiss Dubstep Forum.
As you might know my plan was always to support each and everyone who's active and pushing the sound. So it was clear that I hooked him up and offered him to come and play! So without further explanation,
Enjoy the Show!

Steppas Choice 169: DJ Taiken

Steppas Choice 169: DJ Taiken & C4TR
Taiken
Broadcasted on the 28th of March

It’s a pleasure to welcome a new breed in the show; second one this year after Big MD. And it’s even a bigger pleasure to me because he’s hailing from my origins the east of Switzerland. DJ Taiken, representing UphillProjects and hailing from St. Gallen came over to presents us what he calls Dubstep. I can tell you it was serious bass!
He was also the first to experience the new interview form that I set up and which every DJ is requested to fill out! Just thought would be nice to know where they come from, what the feel and foremost the ultimate question:

What is this thing called Dubstep in their opinion?

And since this is the reason to exist for Steppas Choice I stay curious, curious in what Bass will bring next? Progression / Evolution / Mutation?

Here comes Taiken’s Explanation in Interview form and as podcast!
Enjoy the experience!

Steppas Choice 168: C4TR in the hot seat

Broadcasted on the 21st of March 2011

Actually it was planned to have a man called Zenit in the show alongside his partner in Dub Faustizm but…
I got a call from Zenit around lunchtime where he announced that he won’t make it to play his bass heavy tunes in the show due to a problem with the city council of Bienne. The problem was that the city council planned to destroy the place were Zenit and Faustizm had their creative laboratories probably to build a shopping centre or business house or something of sort, which will bring more money (and less fame than having two brilliant ARTists which enrich the city with cultural goods). It seems like the old battle between Economics (equals Money Making) and Art (you know… this thing that really makes us human) reached one of the street art strongholds in Switzerland (at least that was always my impression while being in Bienne). So Faustizm and Zenit occupied with an emergency meeting to discuss the future of their creative facility and what to do about the plans of the city council I was on my own to do this show…
So there is another one with C4TR in the hot seat – proper bass madness as usual!
Enjoy!

Steppas Choice 166: Elusive Bastard & C4TR

JR presents Simon/Off

Steppas Choice 166: Elusive Bastard & C4TR
Broadcasted on the 7th of March 2011

A farewell to an Elusive Bastard.
Oh Bwoy where should I start…
I met Svenski one Thursday Night, if I’m not completely wrong something like five to six years ago for one of the legendary Jungle Rocket Drum’n’Bass Shows. I was so thrilled to be on a Radio Show, broadcasting the music I liked, and still like, to a wider mass of fellow Jungleists, that I told Svenski that I would return two weeks later for the next show. Svenski was in for it and that was the start of my radio days and the beginning of a deep musically friendship. Svenski, always motivated to discover and on the look out for new bass music, was also the one who brought in the genre this blog is nearly all about: Dubstep. After running Jungle Rocket together with Svenski for quiet a while, increasing it’s popularity, organising every now and then a meeting of Bass Junkies at various BPM’s, conquering FM Radio in Zurich with the Jungle Rocket Invasion at Lora and sinking don’t know how many gallons of beer, I left the Jungle Rocket Radio Show to do Steppas Choice. That didn’t end our friendship. Svenski was still running Jungle Rocket Radio Show and it was only a question of time until he showed up in one of the Steppas Choice Shows. The reason for that was of course the highly infectious effect of Bass, which is omnipresent in Dubstep. So when Svenski showed up to serve the Bass Madness he didn’t only bring an excellent selection of bass driven, swung out tunes he also came along with a new name: Elusive Bastard. Under this moniker he came to grace the show several times, either as a DJ or as a fellow friend in Bass. I was always pleased to have him in the show because it always had this surprisingly moment init. ELU was one of the first to play the funky strain of UK Bass Music and he was also strongly connected to new breads of the Bass Music strain.
So this show sums up the essence of ELU, although this is nearly impossible considering that man’s knowledge and collection of absolutely hideous smashers.
So to end this farewell to an Elusive Bastard I just want to say the following:
Thank you Sven for everything, for the chitchats, the pointing out of new exciting music, for the cover shows, all the adventures in bass and last but not least for your friendship!
Sven, Svenski, Elusive Bastard, ELU: I wish you all the best for your future and may your dreams become true!
Bass bless’

Steppas Choice 165: Stacie & C4TR
Broadcasted on the 28th of February 2011

Stacie!
Stacie?
STAAAACCCCIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!
Don’t know? You got to listen this show! Stacie, aka MC Staga (MC/Singer) & Hazy (Beats/Sampling/Production) worked quiet a while on their first album/mixtape. Staga dropped by from time to time to play a tune or two in the show and I was always quiet impressed by what he brought time. So when he called me and announced that they were done with it and finally about to release their music, the question was quickly raised:
“When will you come to for a Steppas Choice Showcase?”
So they came and also brought their partner in crime Jordan along and wrecked the studio with some freestyles and a more than funny tune-by-tune Album introduction.
So with no further explanation: download it and listen to it! The Music is everything!
Big up Stacie!

Steppas Choice 96: Slass, Kolt’ & C4TR
For the third of four shows, which were broadcasted last year, I was very lucky to get another chance to host the Sounds of the mighty Unreleased Kollektiv! This time we had Kolt’ and Slass behind the ones and twos. And there set was pure meditation on the deeper vibes allthrough. And it seemed that it was needed to be so…
Duplo, who was listening from somewhere in Mexico, in bed with Dengue Fever absolutely needed our vibes to restore his health and recharge his bass driven soul. Also Zenit was fighting influenza… at this point not yet sure if it was Swine flu (Let me call it Piggy Flu)…And I think each and every one who was involved in the show helped to give Duplo and Zenit the good vibes to get well again.
Anyway I hope when you listen to the show you will also feel kinda relief from the daily struggles we all face...
Enjoy!

Second one on the 2009 FM Sessions and oh yes! the studio is equipped with a brand spanking new Mixer! I did a little test on it already before this show (you can read about it here:
Mr. Wrigth’s Bass Dawa) and I love it!
You can hear it, Zenit, Koolkat1 and me myself and I were enjoying the new mixer a lot… Nice inbuilt effects which you can apply on the channels or the Mic… Lovely! Well, probably I pushed it a bit; excitement was overwhelming me! Zenit and Koolkat1 were serving a solid dose of proper skankers, from Dub inflicted to proper Bass Bangers, it’s all there…
As I was listening to the show, during I wrote this, I realised that it seems that we had also some technical difficulties during this one… it seems that the stream wasn’t working properly all the time; bad news for those tuned in over the web; no problem for those we reached over the FM Frequency.
I’m always very curious when I have them boys in the studio. What will they have in there record bags? New Dubs from the Bassvandalizm Squad? New Dubs from friends of them?
In my opinion, the Radio Dadio / Bassvandalizm troops are one of the most active crews in Switzerland. They’re constantly doing excellent parties at Coupole, BNZoo or at Case a Chocs, Neuchatel; the tracks they build are getting with every single one a bit more sophisticated, better and filled with more Bass!

Bass Vandalizm!

The newest bits of Faustizm & Zenit, both solo and them lot together, become instant favourites of mine. When I spoke with Zenit, I realised that they have a lot of time to spend on producing music. And I have to say I’m a bit jealous of them but also very, extremely happy when I receive the newest track!
So please make sure you check the
Bassvandalizm Homepage and support them when ever you can!
I certainly will support them on the Steppas Choice Radio Show and when ever I have time to go to their parties, you will see me in front of the Tribute Soundsystem Speaker doing a proper skank out or near the decks either hosting or asking for a reload!
Maximum Respect to the Radio Dadio / Bassvandalizm Crew!
Big up to Zenit and Koolkat1 for supporting the show!

Steppas Choice 94: Selector Lloyd, C4TR & MC Staga
For the first one on this years FM Sessions of Steppas Choice we got the one and only Selector Lloyd serving one of his reggae and dub influenced sets and trust me Selector Lloyd’s Sets are always big! This time we also had Staga on Microphone duty’s, which did kind of a cover for me…
And let me tell you I was more than happy about this… why? Well nothing new if you’re following the show on a regular base, we got technical difficulties… and bloody hell it must have happened during the FM Sessions that the Mixer kicked the bucket! Trouble started after 22 minutes… you will hear it…
Not only Selector Lloyd got frustrated, I was bloody furious! We couldn’t fix it during the show so we switch quickly to Mala’s fulminate Level 9 played over the CD Decks of the Studio. This gave us the time to replace the Mixer and created a new problem. The replacement Mixer was so out of date, I guess constructed and designed somewhere during the late seventies, early eighties and probably used by the NASA to land on the moon or at least to catapult some satellites into the orbit.
The replacement mixer was… well let’s put it that way not equipped with the features and functions that you can and would expect from a mixer that you normally find nowadays in clubs or at DJ’s home. So Selector Lloyd had quiet a bit of a struggle to fulfil his mission to serve the Bass Dawa. MC Staga took over on Mic duty’s while I was negotiating with the Radio Radius Management (Thank God the President and the Head of Technique were in the building) about the purchase of a new mixer.
You wouldn’t believe the same night they ordered a new mixer!
So that’s more or less the story behind this show…
Maximum Respect to Selector Lloyd and Staga for fighting through the struggles of this show! Big up!
Also Maximum Respect to Duplo, tuned in from over the Atlantic, to be precise from Mexico! What’s gwaaning Easy Ryder?
Big up to Dave for letting us be a part of his bathroom cleaning activities (Gosh this bathroom must have been filthy ‘cause it took him nearly the entire show to clean it)!

C4TR back from Africa, back on Web Waves, C4TR back and right away in the hot seat, you know what that means: Good Bass Dawa played by me, myself & I!
and… don’t be disappointed, I’m still just a bass lover but still not a DJ!
Also another show dealing with technical difficulties… usual Monday Night Business… system crash after like an hour and the microphone is awfully loud sometimes… plus I’m completely messing with the levels…
So nuff said, here’s your needed Bass Dawa straight from your witchbass daktari C4TR.
Big up all the Listeners & Supporters!
Enjoy!

As usual my hot seat sessions are pure live and learn events and I really like to do them from time to time. And the feedback is always good!
Thank you!

Greetings and may the Bass be with you!
